Horizontal blinds are traditionally made up of 1”-2” blinds slats. Due to their design and construction, they are ideal for small to medium-sized windows, or tall and narrow windows. The opening and closing of horizontal blinds are generally less noisy than vertical blinds, which can be quite noisy, especially if the head rail track is not lubed.

Another difference that people don’t often consider is that because vertical window blinds rely on a track with many moving parts, they can be more likely to wear out and need maintenance or replacing.

The slats of that type of blind are typically 2”-3” and hang from a head rail track. Vertical window blinds are operated by opening or closing the vertical slats with a wand or pulley system. We use them for patio doors or large windows is common. While traditional horizontal blinds can be custom-made to fit these types of windows, they are much heavier and aren’t as practical. 

Another advantage, particularly for PVC vertical blinds, is that they are easy to clean and are resistant to moisture and heat. You can simply use mild cleaning soaps to clean and maintain their looks. 

We know there are many different options when it comes to window coverings. Keep in mind the similarities and key differences when assessing your need for whether vertical blinds or horizontal blinds are more suitable for your home. The size of the windows matter to a great extent when it comes to choosing an appropriate window. Be sure to consider both options carefully, it may even be that you need a combination of both types of blinds!
