Once you install your window roller shade, the opaque material will block out a great amount of light from entering your space. Although, there may be some remaining light leakage that will still shine through the space between your window and blinds. When window roller blinds are produced at the manufacture, they must remove 1/8 of an inch in order to prevent the window blinds from becoming damaged or rubbing against the window.
When purchasing your shades, one of the decisions to make is whether you would like an inside or outside mount. When your shade is installed as an outside mount, it is positioned on the exterior of the window frame which in return, will be more effective at blocking the light from passing through. The reason being is that an outside mount provides better coverage over the entire window which leads to less spaces for light to come through.
